Drum solos

Over the years there have been some very talented drummers.  Here are a few.

First we have Gene Krupa playing Sing, Sing, Sing in 1937 with the Benny Goodman Band.  Harry James is doing the trumpet solo.

Buddy Rich in 1978 doing a drum solo.  He started playing the drums at 18 months old on vaudeville.

Thomas Lang is an Austrian drummer who did this drum solo in 2002.

Cab Calloway

Cab Calloway was a famous jazz singer and bandleader from the 1930s.  Minnie the Moocher became his signature song.

This version of Minnie the Moocher  was filmed in 1958.

Jumpin Jive was featured in the 1943 movie Stormy Weather.  The tap-dancing sequence was done by the Nicholas Brothers .


Skokiaan was written in the 1940s by August Musarurwa, a Rhodesian musician. 

One of the earliest recordings was by the Bulawayo Sweet Rhythm Band in 1947.

Louis Armstrong added vocals to one of his versions recorded in 1954.
